Creating Pathways to Opportunity
The KRoussaw Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering individuals and strengthening communities by creating pathways to educational, professional, and economic opportunity.
Through youth education, workforce development, college and career preparation, entrepreneurship, life-skills development, mentoring, and community partnerships, KRF works to equip individuals with the knowledge, skills, resources, experiences, and connections necessary to thrive.
As KRF continues to grow, our Board of Directors plays an important role in helping ensure that the Foundation remains mission-driven, strategically focused, financially responsible, well-governed, and positioned for long-term sustainability and impact.

Leadership Beyond the Boardroom
The KRoussaw Foundation Board of Directors provides governance, strategic guidance, financial oversight, advocacy, and support to help advance the Foundation's mission.
Our Board works alongside organizational leadership while maintaining its responsibility for appropriate nonprofit governance and oversight.
Board members are expected to bring their individual expertise and perspectives to the table while collectively making decisions that support the best interests of the KRoussaw Foundation and the communities we serve.

04 - What Does a KRF Board Member Do?
Board Member Responsibilities
Governance & Oversight
Understand and uphold the Foundation's governing documents and policies and participate in responsible oversight of the organization.
Strategic Leadership
Understand and uphold the Foundation's governing documents and policies and participate in responsible oversight of the organization.
Financial Stewardship
Review financial information and help ensure that the Foundation's resources are managed responsibly and used in furtherance of its charitable mission.
Fundraising & Resource Development
Support KRF's efforts to cultivate donors, sponsors, corporate partners, community partners, grant opportunities, and other resources that strengthen the Foundation.
Advocacy & Ambassadorship
Understand and uphold the Foundation's governing documents and policies and participate in responsible oversight of the organization.
Programs & Impact
Remain informed about KRF's programs and initiatives and help leadership identify opportunities to strengthen and expand the Foundation's impact.
Active Participation
Attend scheduled board meetings, prepare for discussions, participate in decision-making, and contribute to committees, special initiatives, events, or other Board activities when appropriate.
Ethical Leadership
Maintain confidentiality, disclose potential conflicts of interest, exercise sound judgment, and act in the best interests of the Foundation when carrying out Board responsibilities.
05 - Voluntary Board Service
A Commitment to Service
Service on the KRoussaw Foundation Board of Directors is completely voluntary and unpaid.
Board members volunteer their time, leadership, professional expertise, perspective, relationships, and talents in support of the Foundation's mission.
Board service should be viewed as an active commitment to helping KRF grow, remain accountable to its mission, and create meaningful impact within the communities we serve.
There is no salary or compensation associated with serving as a member of the Board of Directors.

The Commitment of Board Service
Before applying, prospective Board members should understand that effective board service requires more than attending meetings. Board members should be prepared to:
Attend
Participate consistently in scheduled Board meetings.
Prepare
Review meeting materials and relevant organizational information before meetings.
Engage
Participate thoughtfully in discussions, decisions, committees, initiatives, and other Board responsibilities.
Advocate
Represent the Foundation positively and help expand awareness of KRF and its work.
Connect
Help cultivate relationships and make appropriate introductions that may strengthen KRF's programs, partnerships, fundraising, and resources.
Support
Participate in fundraising, resource development, events, and other activities that advance the organization.
Protect
Maintain confidentiality and appropriately disclose potential conflicts of interest.
Lead
Exercise sound judgment and keep the Foundation's mission and best interests at the center of Board decisions.

Do I believe in the mission?
Board members should have a genuine connection to KRF's mission and the communities we serve.
Can I make the time commitment?
Board service requires meeting attendance, preparation, communication, and participation outside of scheduled meetings when necessary.
Am I prepared to actively participate?
Effective Board membership requires engagement not simply having your name associated with the organization.
Can I contribute my expertise and relationships?
Every Board member brings something different to the table. Consider how your professional experience, network, skills, or perspective can strengthen KRF.
Am I willing to serve as an ambassador?
Board members should be comfortable representing the Foundation positively and helping others understand and connect with its mission.
Can I put the Foundation's interests first when serving as a Board member?
Board members have fiduciary and ethical responsibilities and must exercise their duties in the best interests of the organization.
